This Privacy Policy explains how Safe Bite(“Safe Bite”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Safe Bite mobile app and website (the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to this policy.
Accuracy disclaimer — please read
The product, ingredient, and dietary information shown in Safe Bite is provided for general information only, comes from third-party sources, and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. It can produce false positives and false negatives. Safe Bite is not a medical, allergy-management, or food-safety service. Always read the actual product label and consult a qualified professional before relying on any result. Your use of the Service is governed by our Terms of Service, including its disclaimers and limitation of liability, which you should read.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you create an account we receive your email address and, if provided, your name, through our authentication provider (Google Firebase Authentication, including Google and Apple sign-in). We do not receive or store your password.
- Scan history. When you are signed in, the products you scan (barcode, product details, and the dietary result) and their timestamps are saved to your account so you can review them later.
- Dietary preferences. The dietary and allergy preferences you choose (for example vegan, Jain, halal, gluten-free) so we can personalise your scan results.
- Device identifier. Before you sign in, we generate a random identifier stored on your device to count your free scans. It is not linked to your identity.
- Technical data. Basic information needed to operate and secure the Service, such as app version and request logs.
How we use your information
- To evaluate scanned products against your dietary preferences.
- To maintain your account and scan history.
- To operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Service.
- To respond to your support requests.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers who help us run the Service:
- Google Firebase for authentication and infrastructure. Your use of Google and Apple sign-in is also governed by their respective privacy policies.
Product and nutrition data shown in the app is sourced from public databases including Open Food Facts and the USDA; this is not personal information about you. We may disclose information if required by law.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your account information and scan history for as long as your account is active. You can request that we delete your account and associated data at any time by emailing hello@safebite.io. We will delete your data within 30 days, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at hello@safebite.io.
Children’s privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date above.
